PLC Programmer · Industrial Automation

Siemens PLC programmer with a passion for AI: I commission automated plants and build the tools that help me work better.

Profile

PLC programmer since 2019, working on Siemens-based plants for synthetic fibre spinning. I write the software in the office and take it on site all the way to handover, with long assignments in China and Turkey. When a plant goes down, I stay until it is running again: on site until late or connected remotely. I enjoy my job and I enjoy experimenting: with AI, I have built tools tested on real projects, such as a bridge between TIA Portal and Claude.

Experience

  1. PLC Programmer · Software Developer

IGH – Irico Gualchierani Handling S.r.l.

Calenzano (Florence), Italy · – present

IGH designs and installs automated bobbin handling systems for synthetic and glass fibre spinning plants: doffing from the winders, transport, storage, sorting and robotic packing.

    • I develop PLC and HMI software in Siemens TIA Portal (S7-1500/1200, safety, PROFINET, SINAMICS): I write the base software in the office, then adapt it on site to the customer's needs and to the issues that come up during commissioning, reporting to the head of the software department or the project manager.
    • I commission plants on site on the software side, from the first power-up of the electrical panels to handover to the customer in automatic mode, with site assignments of several months in China (since 2021) and Turkey, and of a few weeks in Italy.
    • I program and commission industrial robots in their native languages: KUKA (KRL) for palletising, packing and bobbin unloading; Kawasaki for bobbin handling.
    • I test prototypes of new IGH machines in collaboration with Thema System, a group company.
    • I work in a team with other programmers (including colleagues at a group company in Germany) and with the electrical and mechanical designers; on site, I work with electricians, mechanical supervisors and the customer.

AI projects

I started out of curiosity, to see how far it could go. Now I use it every day: at work, through the tool I built for TIA Portal; to generate documents and PDFs; and in my personal projects.

  • TIA Openness Engine

Connects TIA Portal to Claude through the Siemens Openness API: the AI creates the project and the hardware configuration (devices, PROFINET, I/O modules), writes and edits PLC blocks, tags and HMI screens, compiles the project and reviews hand-written code. I built it on my own with Claude Code and tested it on real projects.

  • PDF Editor

License: AGPL-3.0 · Status: new version in progress

A PDF editor that runs entirely in the browser: edit text in place on the page, highlight, sign, merge files and OCR scanned pages. Files never leave your computer.

    • Tesseract OCR
  • EffeUno

Interactive Formula 1 telemetry replay: load any race since 2018 and watch it recreated on an animated track map from real position data, with a live leaderboard with gaps, team radio and race-analysis charts. The public demo runs on a synthetic race.

  • Feishu MCP

An MCP server that connects Claude to Feishu (Lark): 35 tools for messages, group chats, docs, Bitable bases, sheets, Drive folders, tasks and calendar. It works through a custom app created in your own Feishu workspace and can only access what you grant it.

Side projects

  • BurnMyTokens

A tongue-in-cheek game about how much energy AI wastes: your own AI, in a chat or over MCP, is given pointless writing tasks, while the site keeps score and prints a receipt at the end.
